The Holy Hand Grenade

For your viewing pleasure - 2 minutes of David reciting a section of dialogue from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. He's not even seen the whole movie, just sections on youtube. I'm pretty much amazed at his ability to retain sections of dialogue. He's always been able to do it, but I can rarely get him to perform. He did so on this occasion in exchange for a can of Mountain Dew. LOL (And it might be more pleasing to the ear than four minutes of children shrieking. Heh heh heh)

James Sets It Up

Video is about a minute long. James is #9. He is on the white line at the beginning of the video and runs out of the frame briefly before the amateur videographer caught on. lol

Do note that one of the opponents James evades is the goalkeeper. He was SO FAR out of the net that if one of our players had shot, it should have been an easy goal!

Ah well. James was doing HIS job there!



Took this with the Flip camcorder and I was zooming, so the quality isn't great, but I think you can get the idea.

craziness

26 seconds that show how crazy it was here this evening. The video is very dark - took it with my Easy Share camera instead of my Flip, so I apologize for that. It's ok, though; if you dare to view it, you'll get the impact of the insanity whether or not the picture is light enough.



Did you notice David at the computer, totally oblivious to all the activity?

Now, you can see why I am glad they are in bed!

Renaissance Festival Youtube Vids

Owl Pellet Videos

I've posted about owl pellets over at Cornerstone, but I thought I'd give my Quingly Things readers a look at a couple videos of the owl pellet dissection. They are pretty long, so if your connection is slow, you'll have to come over to my house to see the videos. :-D

If you're squeamish, these may not be the videos for you. They're not graphic and I didn't find it disturbing to look at the pellet contents, but some people could be grossed out by it, I suppose. A word to the wise, as they say. You could at least listen. :-)




Ok, some clarifications - When I ask James what he has, he responds very low, saying "owl poop". James says maybe the skull is a VOLE or a RAT. Suzy says she's "skavering" (discovering) - trying to get some bones out of owl poop. James says the owl eats something and "gestes" it (digests).

Don't you love those hacking sounds and faces to illustrate how the owl regurgitates the pellet? lol

At the end of that video, James says he has vole teeth and then, "There's two heads stuck together!" However, after further investigation (when the camera was off) he realized he had the skull with teeth (upper jaw) and also the lower jaw.

The second video is shorter. It shows mostly how James dissects the skull with the orange teeth - photo on Cornerstone blog.



I love how we can "see" James thinking! lol

This was such a COOL project. Thank you again, Michele! And Penny, thanks for posting about it on your blog and further encouraging me to order those pellets!

James Gets a Hit

James was in a softball clinic for about a month. He had wanted to play baseball this spring quite badly, but I didn't want to complicate our schedule that much. Soccer and baseball overlap quite a lot. Anyway, a local homeschool mom organized a t-ball clinic for younger kids and a softball clinic for older ones. James loved it. I only got to go to the last one because I wouldn't have been able to get back from work in time to go to the others. The last one was held earlier in the day.

In this video, he swings and misses, then he gets a hit! He runs to first base, watching the ball the whole time. What's that about? lol I dunno.

My Day at Maryann's

This is Maryann's pond on her property. The raft is new this year, I think. Her 19yo dd Erin is standing by the raft and 3 of my kids and 2 of hers are on and around it. (This video about 50 seconds, so be patient if you try to load it.)

The kids had an awesome time! I guess the birthday party guests swam for about 3-1/2 hours! Our kids swam today for more than an hour, I think. I didn't wear my watch purposely today, so that I wouldn't worry about time at all.


This is another view of the pond. Emily, Kathleen (birthday girl!) and Suzy are playing in the sand. The boat behind them on the beach is one of the ones that was constructed at FIRE camp a few years ago. James and Gabby are in the water. (This one is almost a minute.)


This is 4 seconds of me and Maryann. Quick video! (I have NO MAKEUP on and my hair was slicked back into a French braid to avoid dealing with it in the heat.)



James found a nest on the ground with 3 baby birds in it. Probably it blew out of the tree during the thunderstorms last night. They were alive when we left them. This video was a little blurry since I tried to get too close for part of it.

Doesn't James look sweet? He got a sunburn on his shoulder blades. I should have put more sunscreen on him!

We had such a lovely day! The weather wasn't as hot as they predicted, or at least it didn't seem like it! I hope we can all go back again sometime soon for another relaxing afternoon.
